Estimating the weight of tape applied to cable

When specific gravity is known, but weight of tape/1000’ is not known:

Tape Weight = Ktf (d+ tf ) G = lb./1000 ft.

Where:
K = 1.364

d = diameter of cable under tape in inches

t = tape thickness

f = multiplying factor from Table 1

G = specific gravity of the tape

EXAMPLE:

K = 1.364

t = 0.001

F = 1.28 (value for 25% overlap)

d = 0.5

G = 1.395 (specific gravity of polyester)

Tape Weight = 1.364 x 0.001 x 1.28 x (0.5 + 0.001 x 1.28) 1.395 =
1.364 x 0.001 x 1.28 x 0.50128 x 1.395 = 1.22 lbs./1000’ of cable
