Construction

Film/foil shielding tapes are thin gage laminates constructed of foil (aluminum or copper) and film (polyester or polypropylene).

  • HIGH-DRAW film/foil laminates offer exceptional draw characteristics and resilient shielding

Films
  • Polyester film has a higher temperature resistance than polypropylene and is therefore often selected for use directly under an extruded jacket.
  • Polypropylene film laminates are more flexible and offer great economy because of their high yield
  • High temperature substrates (Kapton® or Nomex®) are available for temperature resistant shielding
  • Thicker film substrates provide higher dielectric and tensile strengths

Foils
  • Aluminum is lighter weight and more cost effective than copper
  • Copper offers corrosion and radiation resistance, soldering at termination, and higher conductivity relative to aluminum
  • Thicker film substrates provide higher conductivity and tensile strength, and lower signal attenuation
