Pawtucket, Rhode Island, June 27, 2008 – For the second year in a row, NEPTCO has been recognized by the Worksite Wellness Council of Rhode Island (WWCRI) for its promotion and support of employee health and fitness. In order to qualify for the award NEPTCO conducted various health awareness programs including personal fitness assessments, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, and flu shot clinics. The goal of these programs is to assist employees and their family members to make voluntary behavioral changes that reduce their health risks and enhance their individual well-being.

NEPTCO’s award is part of a statewide campaign to achieve “Well State” status. Upon accepting Rhode Island’s award as the first Well State in the nation on April 10, 2007, Governor Don Carcieri affirmed, “Businesses across the state are recognizing that health and wellness programs based in the workplace benefit everyone, including employers, their employees and their families.” Rhode Island earned its Well State designation because 20 percent of the state’s workforce is employed by organizations that have received Well Workplace awards.

Companies that participate in worksite wellness activities report a number of benefits – in addition to improving overall employee health the programs reportedly boost morale and reduce absenteeism. NEPTCO Human Resources Manager, Donna Phaneuf, is pleased with the response to programs offered by the company. “Our goal is to provide employees with the information and support they need to achieve their maximum level of wellness.” NEPTCO employees have embraced this approach, as evidenced by the high attendance rates at recent clinics.

The national effort to promote worksite wellness was launched in 1991 by the Wellness Councils of America, based in Omaha, Nebraska. WELCOA is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting healthier lifestyles for all Americans through worksite based programs.
